Trips around Spain

On numerous occasions I have given talks on the regions of Spain in general or on specific regions. These courses are designed for those who mainly want to listen and pick up a lot of ideas for their travels. You learn a lot by listening, so these are lectures where you can enjoy ideas and images in a visual way and they are not conversation courses, that's what the cultural courses are for. These lectures are designed for groups of between 3 and 12 people. The PowerPoint presentation is not provided, but a summary of the presentation is.

Regional courses:

Spain:

In this course we will travel across the map of Spain, showing its different regions and provinces, talking about them all and looking at pictures of well-known and less well-known places. - Final A2 / Level B1

Madrid:

I'm from Madrid; there's no better introduction to this course and I know my city perfectly. What is the essence of Madrid? We will talk about this, its history, why it is the way it is, the character of its inhabitants and of course its monuments, museums, gastronomy and much more. - Final A2/Level B1

Extremadura, the great unknown:

Extremadura surprises with its simplicity and its immense cultural heritage. The land of the Romans in the Merita Augusta, the land of the conquerors, the land of extreme poverty in the years that marked it forever, the stigma of which the people of Extremadura have managed to escape with their strength and pride in their land. - Finals A2 / Level B1
3-hour course

Andalusia:

Spain's most famous region abroad, and rightly so, Andalusia fascinates everyone who visits it, whether from Spain or abroad. It symbolises the image of Spain and what tourists look for and expect to find. But it is much more than white villages, flamenco costumes or guitars. Its Moorish past dazzles the visitor, as does the light and colour of this very Spanish region. - Finals A2 / Level B1

Castile and Leon:

An autonomous community with an immense cultural heritage. With eight Unesco World Heritage sites, it is the region in the world with the most cultural assets recognised by this organisation. Full of history in every corner, with unique places such as Romanesque churches, castles or surprising landscapes, it is also a land of wines, of fields that inspire poetry. It is impossible not to want to get to know it and discover the charm of its sobriety and at the same time its closeness. - End A2/ Level B1.

Castile-La Mancha:

A land of wine, saffron and windmills that evoke literature. Don Quixote fictionally inhabited these lands and it is impossible not to see him and Sancho Panza walking through its corners. Unknown natural landscapes invite you to go hiking, its gastronomy has already appeared in the work of that genius called Cervantes, and cities such as Toledo and Cuenca amaze those who visit them. - End A2 / Level B1

Galicia:

A mysterious land of the sea and history. All roads lead to Santiago de Compostela and the sea, always present, defines a way of life. Estuaries and rivers, islands, capes and lush, mysterious landscapes. White wines and exceptional gastronomy, with fish and seafood as the main ingredients. Once you have been to Galicia, you will always want to come back. - Level A2 / Level B1.

Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country:

Three different regions that can be combined in a single trip, choosing the best of each. They have three things in common: the sea, greenery and exceptional gastronomy.

Asturias is a paradise that has it all: sea and mountains, history and modernity, important cities such as Oviedo and Gijón, and cider and cheese as gastronomic essentials.

Cantabria, with its capital Santander, was already a holiday destination for the aristocracy in the 19th century. It is a popular tourist destination for its gentle landscapes, quiet beaches, charming villages, dairy products, anchovies and typical sweets.

And the Basque Country never ceases to surprise: Bilbao has embraced modernity with the transformation brought about by the Guggenheim Museum; San Sebastian is still that elegant city with a beach, a very important film festival and a cultural life spiced up with pintxos and more. And Vitoria is the quiet capital with a high quality of life. - End A2 / Level B1.

La Rioja and Navarre:

Two northern regions with no coastline, but with spectacular landscapes. The Pilgrim's Road to Santiago crosses both regions, and the coming and going of pilgrims has left a very important historical mark. Navarre has a wide variety of landscapes within its borders: from lunar landscapes to breathtaking valleys, ravines, beech forests and many different shades of green. You must try its cheeses, its pacharán and its famous pinchos, and visit its film castles.

And La Rioja is, in fact, the wine of the same name, which makes this region an exceptional place for wine tourism, but it also preserves very important monasteries, such as San Millán de la Cogolla, the cradle of Castilian and a gastronomy rich in products from the orchards. - Final A2/Level B1 3 hours course

Valencian Community:

The light of Sorolla's paintings can be felt throughout the region, that magnificent Mediterranean light that changes its tonalities throughout the day.

The smell of paella or the immense variety of rice dishes and the aroma of oranges attract everyone. In these lands, the Arabs left their mark on gastronomy, festivals and traditions, and you can still see traces of castles and buildings from that period.

Valencia is one of the most important cities in Spain and has one of the most spectacular festivals in the country, the Fallas. It also has a modernist market that delights the palate, a futuristic side that shines even on cloudy days, and neighbourhoods that have undergone a multicultural transformation.

The provinces of Castellón and Alicante also offer a wealth of beaches, charming villages, history and breathtaking scenery. - Finals A2 / Level B1 - 3 hour course
